Why you should visit the London Transport Museum at Christmas time

The London Transport Museum is one of our favourite museums.

There’s something on offer for every member of our family. Here’s why it’s an especially good place to visit during the festive season:

Father Christmas is there

Ever fancied a unique photo op with Santa beside a vintage bus or train? During the festive season at the London Transport Museum, Father Christmas can be found wandering around the exhibits, greeting guests (no need to book, you just need to track him down throughout the museum!)

There’s a great selection of Christmas gifts in the gift shop

From beautiful books, toy vehicles, and unique Christmas clothing, you are bound to find the perfect present in the London Transport Museum gift shop.

Using the code SORRYABOUTTHEMESS20, you can get 20% off the London Transport Museum Christmas ranges – including the boys’ fabulous transport-themed Christmas jumpers

It feels really festive

The story time and craft area is decked out wonderfully as a twinkly light winter scene. The boys had a great time creating transport-related Christmas ornaments to hang on our tree, and the festive singalong was lovely to join in with.

It’s quieter

Now, this could have just been the day we chose to visit, but having been to the London Transport Museum at least six times before, last Saturday was one of our most quietest visits. Perhaps is was coincidence, but I suspect lots of people get drawn in by all the festive sights that Covent Garden has to offer, leaving us to take full advantage of less foot traffic inside the museum and not having to patiently take turns to sit in the bus driver’s seat.

It’s a great family day out

We love having a special family day at Christmas time, and the London Transport Museum is always a great day out for our whole family. Eating lunch at the London Transport Museum’s new restaurant, Canteen, allowed us to make even more of a day of it.

You can combine your museum visit with a Christmas lights tour on a heritage bus

We did this a few years ago and it remains one of our favourite Christmas time activities ever. You can watch our video here! Touring the London Christmas lights on a vintage bus – it doesn’t get more London festive than that.

Our tickets, our meals, and the boys’ Christmas jumpers (which you can purchase from the London Transport Museum gift shop) were provided free of charge.
