snapshots and scenes

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]t first light one midweek morning in early December, I was sat working at my computer.

It’s one of my favourite hours. Before everyone has woken, the house is still, and it’s just me, with 60 minutes of quiet headspace and a jump-start on my to-do list.

We hadn’t been following the weather forecast, so it was a huge surprise to glance toward the doors to my right and catch the snowfall, coming down thick and fast.

The boys were just waking up, and they’d been hoping for snow for the longest time.

Technically, I don’t think this is actually Rory’s first snow. But it’s the first snow since he has been old enough to remember.

I shared this video on Instagram earlier this month. It’s part of a longer vlog hosted on my Youtube channel, created as part of my December day in the life video series. I love that because I was in the habit of daily vlogging this month, I had my cameras right next to me and was able to hit record in the moment.

I love this video because I think it captures our family life just as it is. I love the boys playful excitement and Rory’s sheer joy to be out in the snowfall. I love that it captures our everyday – yes, Sam is sleeping on the floor in Otto’s room, you’ll usually find one of us in there on any given night!

I’ve had this strange feeling this December. That perhaps this Christmas might be our peak Christmas. Will it continue to get more exciting year on year? Or are 7 and 4 years old THE most magical ages for Christmas and all the traditions that come along with it?

I don’t know. But I definitely felt I should have my camera out a lot this month, to document this moment in our family’s story. Just in case.

WHAT IS SNAPSHOTS AND SCENES?

Snapshots and Scenes is a monthly project focusing on telling a story through words, images, and video. It can be a summary of the month just past, a celebration of a special occasion or milestone, or highlighting the little moments.
I’m approaching Snapshots and Scenes as a way to honour the little stories of life that make our family what it is.

Snapshots and Scenes is open to everyone! We’d love to hear your stories and your adventures, big and small. Just link up your blog posts or youtube videos below to join in:

Oh your video is just so lovely this month Chloe, got me a little chocked up. Snow makes everything that little bit more magical in December and it’s such a shame we don’t see it more often. Happy New Year #snapshotsandacenes

I wish I was more of an early riser and able to get started on my things to do before every one else wakes up, but I’m useless in the morning! That first snowfall ever is so precious, isn’t it! Tasting the snow is a definite must. Love the fact you didn’t edit the bit where you wake Rory up and your husband is on the floor next to him 🙂 It makes me feel normal: I do stuff like that!

These early years are such magical times to capture, your videos are the most beautiful you really do have an eye for how to capture. I agree that waking early and making the most of the day is so important x
