Dairy is back on the menu.
For the past few weeks I haven’t been completely dairy free. I’ve been having milk with my tea (finally, a decent cuppa once again. I can’t tell you how happy this has made me). I’ve had the odd bit of butter, chocolate bar or pastry here and there. Not so great for the diet, but bloody great news on the milk allergy front.
It doesn’t appear to have affected Arlo at all. No wind, no eczema flare up, no puking….nothing. He had a bit of congestion to start with, but it’s cleared up now. I’ve even had cheese (always the thing that affected Arlo the most)…nothing. Since his sixth tooth came through at the weekend, his cheeks have been clear and looking better than ever.
I’m not going to get all giddy with this new-found freedom and eat a whole wheel of brie. I’m still worried that large amounts of dairy in my diet could have a cumulative effect. But it is great to know that an occasional bit of chocolate is not going to hurt Arlo.
As for Arlo himself, well, he has also been dabbling in a bit of dairy. He’s had cow’s milk in his food on several occasions. Digestion-wise, there have been no adverse effects, but it does cause an eczema flare up so unfortunately he’s not yet in the clear. It has given me confidence that he could be on the road to outgrowing his milk allergy, but I don’t want to count my chickens.
Soya, on the other hand, is another story.
(If you want the back story, I posted in depth about our experiences with eczema and food allergies here)
