You know how I was relieved to be finishing my 366 photo-a-day project so I could concentrate on smaller, more focussed photo projects this year? Well, Lucy at Dear Beautiful has come up with a great idea that is sure to keep me really motivated in my mission to make sure I take more photos of my family together.
The idea behind the ‘Me and Mine’ project is to take and share one photo of your family each month. There is a Linky at the bottom of this post if you would like to join us in sharing a family photo!
Here is my January shot – of course it had to be a snow photo!
As you can see, I still haven’t learnt to stop pointing the control at the camera like it’s the TV remote. But in my defence the silly thing wasn’t firing (maybe buying the cheapest remote wasn’t the way to go?), I’d taken my glasses off for this shot and I literally couldn’t see a thing, let alone whether the sensor was activated or not. I’d set up the shot so we’d be standing further back, so the awkward crouching pose is also thanks to the remote not doing its job properly!
In amongst all of this, Arlo was throwing the biggest strop of his life – I have no idea how we managed to come away with a smile in the one attempt that actually triggered the shutter. Two seconds before this moment (and the whole journey home afterwards), he was in tears. And I wonder why Sam groans every time I announce grand plans for a family photoshoot.

Ahhh, love your photo for January. Mine is a snowy one too!
And I love the little story about getting the shot, I sometimes think the story behind getting the photo is as much fun as the photo itself.

Seriously, it couldn’t have possibly been more chaotic. And yet I didn’t give up because (for once) I had put make up on and even bothered to blow dry my hair! Think Sam is going to have a nervous breakdown when I announce it’s time to take February’s shot.

I have to say, despite my love / hate relationship with the remote, it was well worth getting one. Can’t believe it took me so long!
Lovely January photo! I am starting to wish I had dared to venture out into the snow. It was my first attempt with a remote and the thought of outdoor and suspended cameras scared me! :o) Maybe next month. x
It was quite nervewracking. I had a towel under the tripod (just in case it fell!) and I kept thinking “This is probably a really stupid idea!”

The only way I know not to point the remote at the camera is to used the shutter delay/self timer. Unfortunately I’ve discovered there is now way that will work with a wriggly toddler, when I’m lucky to even get anything in focus in a normal shot, never mind trying to pose him for several seconds!
Yes, you’ve described my woes exactly. Remote is much better at capturing a wriggly toddler, sometimes you only have 1 second to get the shot!

I am with you on the remote, although this month I had to use the timer as Mads loves to play with it and has some how lost it! Loving your photo as well, and there is definitely a snowy theme going on around these parts. Can’t wait to see the summer editions, I am getting so fed up of this cold weather! x
