Today, I’m bringing you a guest post on home decor and how to improve the look of your home in small but significant ways (post contains sponsored content). We’ve actually done most of the things listed below, and although I am far from being ‘in love’ with my house’s interior, there are happy little areas that I’m quite pleased with. These small changes can make a big difference. The photo above is a little glimpse into Arlo’s room, that we’ve recently turned from ‘storage dump with a bed’ to an actual space for him to play.

Making home improvements seems like something you do only when you’re feeling a little flush. But that needn’t be the case. Even with mortgage payments, small children, and debts, you can still do small and simple things to give your home a fresh feel.
Here are some cheap and simple ways to bring a new lease of life to your most tired looking rooms:
Modernise your bookcase
The living room sometimes feels like the one stop shop of the house; there are toys, ironing, DVDs and books. So to help make the ‘stuff’ look more intentional and modern, try colour coding. The easiest and most effective way to do this is to colour code your books. Arranging in this way makes a focal point out of storage, and is free.
Use chalk paint
This is another cheap décor idea; try painting an entire wall with chalk paint. This works really well in a child’s room as they can use it to write and draw on and it can be wiped clean. You can write messages to them or draw a design on there if you’re feeling artistic.
Stop any draughts
Making it feel more homely doesn’t need to just be aesthetic, think about the warmth of your house too. If there are rooms you avoid because they’re a little chilly or draughty, then consider sash window refurbishment to stop draughts and improve insulation.Doing this can gain back so much space and save loads on heating bills too.
Get creative with paints
If you’ve got plain furniture, why not consider painting parts of it to make it look Designer? Paint the bottom halves of chair legs, or paint a pattern on the tabletop. You can paint the edges of mirrors too if you want to glam that up too; this works particularly well on large plain mirrors.
Keep clutter to a minimum
It can be hard to keep your home looking tidy when you have “all of the things” that you think you need. However, an untidy home can make it feel less personal to you. We all know the saying a tidy house equals a tidy mind, so try and incorporate that into your interiors. You can click here for some inspiration on how to get things on track.
Jazz up your drawers
As with the chairs, painting a little on your chests of drawers will make a feature out of a boring and functional piece of furniture. Try painting the knobs a different colour, or painting the fronts of drawers a different colour.
Get as creative as you like; you don’t need to be an artist to pull these easy tricks off; all you need is an open mind and a tin of paint.
