Travelling as a family can be one of the best things you do. Adventuring together isn’t just about ticking destinations off a list; it’s about making memories that last a lifetime for all ages. UK travelling trends have seen an increase in meaningful, experience-led trips in 2026. Booking a holiday like this leads to connection, discovery and a break from real life, which is why you should think differently when it comes to booking your next family holiday.

Experience-Led Adventures

Experience-led travel is becoming more and more popular amongst all types of travellers, including families. Parents and grandparents are choosing trips that create meaningful shared memories or ones that hold some sort of meaning.

Consider what you want to get out of your trip, as well as the ages of the people going. Iceland cruises are perfect for all the family, offering breathtaking views, fun on-board activities and unique excursions. There will be something suitable for everyone, grandparents included!

Seasonal Moments Worth Travelling For

Summer holidays are traditional for families to jet off on holiday, but there has been a small shift away from this. Instead, some families are opting to travel in the quieter months throughout the school year.

Sometimes this works out well, resulting in better weather, less footfall and special natural events that may not happen in the UK summer months. For example, Japan’s cherry blossom trees bloom towards the end of March and early April, meaning if you travel there during those months, you’ll increase the chance of seeing them in all their glory.

Educational Journeys

Being able to provide your children with a rich understanding of the world is such a privilege. From amazing geographical features to the unique wildlife that roams our planet, wanting your children to come back from their holidays with new knowledge is common.

Think about the interests your child has and see if you can incorporate them into your holiday choices. For kids obsessed with history, try to visit some archaeological sites throughout your trip, whereas if they’re more into activities, encourage them to try local water sports.

Making the Most of Global Travel Trends

One trend that has been emerging over the past few years is multigenerational travel. There is a mindset that families want to spend as much time together making memories, and travel is a great way to do this.

Another trend set to stay is the lack of fear around taking kids on long-haul trips. Some parents can be nervous about undertaking such a flight or journey, but the payoff is worth it – plus most kids handle it absolutely fine!
