This guest post is brought to you by Sainsbury’s and the Christmas in a Day film.

I have to admit, the Sainsbury’s trailer ‘got’ me, it’s by far my favourite of all the Christmas adverts this year. It’s all real footage sent in by real families celebrating Christmas. I will be watching the full length film just as soon as Sam’s next evening out, as he will have no interest in watching it, obviously.

Happy holidays! How to make your home a winter wonderland with ideas from Sainsbury’s film.

If you’ve got a strong creative eye and love to use your interior to express your artistic ideas, then the decorative opportunities provided by Christmas will be well, like Christmas.

Everything from the food to the tree and the tinsel to the mistletoe helps to add a bit of Christmas cheer to your space.

And this year, with the Sainsbury’s Christmas in a Day giving households across the country an extra injection of Christmas spirit, this is the perfect year to go all out and transform your house from a family home to a veritable winter wonderland.

Food

As the Christmas in a Day film – created by Oscar winning director Kevin Macdonald – shows, food is still very much at the heart of our Christmas celebrations. So if you want your home to be a real winter wonderland, you need to begin with a festive feast fit for Santa Claus himself.

Though on the day itself you probably won’t have time for anything apart from the turkey and the trimmings, the days leading up to the 25th December are ideal for getting stuck in in the kitchen.

If you’ve got children, get them involved in the measuring, mixing and baking, or invite a few friends round to share a glass of mulled wine as you all decorate mince pies and steam Christmas puds.

Decorations

No winter wonderland would be complete without a few well-placed decorations, so why not take up the challenge and create some stunning festive decorative pieces of your own

To combine food with decoration, you could build your very own gingerbread house, getting friends and family to help you construct and perfect it. This is the perfect centrepiece for your festive table and provides a delicious snack for anyone that still had room left after the Christmas feast.

To prevent your house looking like Santa’s Grotto, try to keep the majority of your decorations in just one or two rooms. That way they’ll have a bigger impact and the rest of your home won’t feel too cluttered.

Music

For many people, nothing says Christmas like a few good old festive songs. Just listen to the soundtrack as you watch the Christmas in a Day Film and you’ll be instantly transported back to all of the Christmases that have gone before.

So to give your home that extra touch of festive magic, why not invest in a new HIFI system? Then all of your favourite seasonal classics will sound fantastic and will give your home a great festive atmosphere.

The tree

From the moment that children are old enough to appreciate Christmas, the eponymous tree becomes one of the most symbolic and anticipated parts of the festive transformation.

And whether you’re digging yours up from the garden, getting it down from the loft or ordering one especially from the North Pole, there’s no excuse not to decorate it to the max, getting all of the family to help as you go.

Going that extra mile

As you’ll see in the Sainsbury’s video, Christmas is the perfect time of year for going that extra mile to make all of your friends and family happy. And if you’re this year’s host, a big part of that will involved getting your home ready and transforming it into a winter wonderland.

So if you’re struggling for inspiration or don’t know your baubles from your lebkuchen, the Christmas in a Day film is the perfect way to start your research and preparation!
