Allergy UK Cow’s Milk Protein Intolerance Survey

I know some people land on my blog as a result of my posts about Arlo’s eczema and food intolerances. If you are one of those people and your child has suspected or diagnosed Cow’s Milk Protein Intolerance, this post is for you.

Allergy UK are running an online survey to ‘share your experiences, feelings and the advice that you’d pass on to other parents who are in a similar situation.’ The survey is a partnership between Allergy UK and Aptamil – the people who make the hypoallergenic formula we use for Arlo on occasions when I am not available to breastfeed. So, I’m sure there is a bit more behind this than just ‘helping people’, and I did find some of the questions leading.

I hesitated to post about this due to my concerns of a profit driven motive, but in the end I figure if it helps to promote more awareness, especially amongst GPs and anyone in the medical profession who isn’t an allergy specialist, it could be a good thing.

Arlo first showed symptoms of food intolerance at eleven weeks. When he was eleven months old, we were finally seen by a specialist, given the valuable advice that I had been seeking for eight difficult months, and prescribed the milk he needed for when I went back to work (the work part didn’t actually happen in the end, but that’s another story). I was dismissed countless times by GPs as an anxious first time mother, dealt with horrible symptoms and elimination diets with absolutely no support from healthcare professionals, just with the help and advice I found online.

I am all for more support, advice, and awareness for CMPI, and for all food allergies and intolerances.

I have filled in the survey, and if you would like to share your experience, you can do so here.

My younger brother had a cow’s milk allergy when he was younger. He had to have this powder-based milk called Wysoy.

I remember it came in these largeish tins and I would just spoon the powder into my mouth as it tasted nice.

This would have been about 22+ years ago.

Um, that’s it and I realise that this comment is of no help to anyone at all.

straight powder?! Blurgh. I remember Wysoy from my days of working in a pharmacy (quite some time ago).
