If you’ve been following the blog for any length of time, you know all about the process of our home renovation, and I’ve talked before about how we afforded it.

Renovating a whole house in the UK can get pricey very quickly. On average, renovators cost about £$40/hour

But, whether you’re considering loft conversion ideas, house upgrades, or something in between, there are ways to renovate your home no matter what your budget might be.

The best part? Many upgrades can be done on your own or with the help of a friend or family member. You can save time and money and avoid hiring a professional renovator.

With that in mind, let’s look at three home renovation projects you can do on a budget to transform the look of your space.

  1. Repaint Your Rooms

There is perhaps no better/easier way to give any room in your house an upgrade than with a fresh coat of paint.

A good rule of thumb is to check out some of the rules behind “color psychology”. Different colors can actually make you feel different things. For example, painting your kitchen a bright, sunny color like yellow can make it seem more inviting. Painting a bedroom blue tones can help you to relax and fall asleep.

Painting a room doesn’t take long and it’s something you can do yourself that will make a big difference.

  1. Upgrade Your Stairs With a Runner

Do your stairs need a remodel but you don’t have the budget? Consider getting a stylish stair runner. They can be used on both hardwood or carpeted stairs to hide stains, damage, or general wear and tear. Plus, they don’t have to be permanent. If you do have the money to one day repair or redo your stairs, you can simply remove the runner.

In the meantime, it’s a great way to add a fresh look to your stairs, and it will also help you to avoid any additional damage to each step.

  1. Change Your Window Treatments

This may not be as much of a “renovation” idea, but if you really don’t have the desire to DIY any big projects, one of the easiest ways to change the look of a room is to upgrade your window treatments.

New fabric for your curtains or new shades can make a big difference in the room of your choice. Your selection can make a room look smaller or larger, brighter or darker, and it can add to the overall atmosphere you’re trying to create in a specific space. If your budget is very tight, it’s an affordable way to make a difference.

As you can see, you don’t have to break the bank to bring some easy home renovation ideas to life. Don’t be afraid to get creative when it comes to upgrading your living space. The more you’re willing to think outside the box, the easier it will be to come up with DIY solutions for making your home look great, no matter what your budget may be.
